Fundamentals & Outcomes Infographic
This infographic serves multiple purposes:
- The BOARS fundamentals are intended to serve as an easily memorizable acronym that provides a stepping stone to understanding the general ideas behind the PSIA fundamentals, particularly as they apply to the green zone.
- The Outcomes listed provide the typical milestones found in the green zone with newer skiers and considerations to achieving them, especially with children.
- The infographic is formatted in a way to discourage linear, one-size fits all type approaches to teaching beginners. Instead, I like to encourage instructors to think of the outcomes like pastries while the fundamentals are the ingredients. Most pastries contain essentially the same ingredients, just in different ratios. Similarly, most outcomes involve the same fundamentals just with different applications. It is the instructor’s job to mix and practice those fundamentals based on the needs and desired outcomes of the students standing in front of them.
Note: I would like to develop a similar resource for snowboarders. If you’re a snowboard trainer and you’d like to contribute, please reach out.
CAP Model For Everyone Infographic (WIP)
This project is currently a work in progress and will continue to be refined as this goes slightly beyond a simple rewording with pretty graphics of the PSIA’s CAP Model. The idea behind it is to create a simple, approachable way of looking at the many populations we as instructors are tasked with teaching, including children, teenagers, adults, seniors, mixed family lessons, and adaptive students.
My solution: to use the CAP Model many instructors are already familiar with and apply the same core ideas to adults, seniors, adaptive students, and everyone in between.
